some things

Lately I have been trying a few new things, just to see if I can make stuff I might otherwise buy. I have been cooking a lot, and husby and I made nice heirloom tomato sauce, then canned it, using the trusty Ball jars. It was a great deal of work, but well worth the effort. Then I got a link sent to me via my friend, Mandy, about cutting the grocery bill. The blog had a list of homemade household things, like soap and lotion, but the deodorant recipe caught my eye. I have found that commercial deodorant works less and less well on me. I decided to go all earth-momma and give this stuff a try. I decided to stick close to home, lest I need to shower all of a sudden, but I found that the darn stuff refuses to fail (so far). I even took a marathon walk with the new B-O-B stroller (and hound) to put the mixture to the test. It held up remarkably. Here is the recipe for anyne who wants to try it: 1/4 cup baking soda+1/4 cup cornstarch+10-20 drops of either lavender or tea tree oil. I used about 10 of each. Dust lightly under arms, and enjoy a stink-less day. I am thrilled about this because it is basically free and it works really well!
I will give credit to the original posters here: LITTLE HOUSE IN THE SUBURBS.
Nota bene: I made the powdered version. I am not able to deal with the melting coconut oil business just yet, and since a trip to Florida looms, I think flying with a tube of coconut oil seems like a dumb idea. Just sayin’.

Also, the bit about chicken-keeping caught my eye, but since I wish to remain married, I shall resist the urge to fill the yard with fancy Polish poultry, even if they DO lay pretty blue eggs.
