Happy Thanksgiving, y’all!  We went to Bridgewater, New Jersey, and it was great fun.  dsc_00302

I think the trunk was pretty full.  Those sneakers didn’t get used.  The rolls did, though.

We got a new dresser.  It’s weird what thrills you when you are a grownup.dsc_0009

The babywearing thing is kind of cumbersome when you add in all the coats and sweaters.  Baby looks grouchy here.dsc_00031

My kid looks miserable, but I just had a haircut, so I feel fancy!

I took my nice little dog out for what I thought would be a rollicking game of fetch at the local baseball diamond.  The weather has precipitously shifted from   COLD, and he has an abundance of friskiness.  So we dropped off the little man at his class and headed for said baseball diamond.  It was cold last night.  Cold.  It rained a lot in the last week.  The field was like a rice paddy unpleasantly muddy and had frost in the shady spots.  Unfortunately it also had lots of deer dung.  I discovered today that the dog loves to EAT deer dung.  I spent like 40 minutes chasing him around that muddy, frozen dung-heap of a baseball diamond cursing loudly encouraging Charlie to come HERE and STOP running around with that giant hunk of poop in his mouth.  He ate the whole thing in stages, as he would bound just far enough away from me to hunker down and get in a good gnaw before I could come close to him.  My shouting seemed only to egg him on.

Fast forward to an hour later.  Baby is almost asleep for his nap.  Alllllmmmmooooossssttttt….when I start hearing that awful sucking, heaving sound.

The dog voided the whole contents of his stomach up onto the baby’s rug.  Let’s just say that there was some shouting and hiding under the crib.  Then there was banishment and child-abandonment as I dragged the disgusting carpet down the stairs to the yard for a hose-down and repeated washings.  Child was subsequently rocked, though he kept looking at floor, pointing and saying , “uh-oh!”  I’m sure I have traumatized us all somehow.  The dog is in his cage.  I am never letting him off the leash again, even in an enclosed space like a baseball diamond.

dsc_0037I made baby a nice puree of sweet potato, butter, salt, agave nectar and heavy cream with nutmeg.  He was not too into dinner because he had had too many snacks. was kind of not hungry. dsc_0023The sleeves on the Big Windex were kind of fiddly to knit.  I was racing to finish.dsc_0035Dut…dut…dut!

so….

November 13, 2008

Yesterday the doorbell rang.  I sauntered over, halfway expecting it to be the delivery of the rotary tool attachment that I go to grind down the dog’s toenails. Yawn.

Imagine my surprise to find a box with a Perry, Florida zip code on it.  I had forgotten that my cousin’s wife, Diane, had said she’d like to send me a quilt put together by collaboration between my Great-Aunt Mary Lou and Diane’s friend.  It is tacked together, and all I have to do (after I stop drooling over it and studying the patterns) is stitch the binding down and sew the “ditches,” which have been clearly parked for me with thread.

I am gobsmacked.

My husband, not one to notice handicrafts, took one look at it and said, “Oh my God.  That..isn’t for Little Man, is it?  He can’t use that on his bed, you know.  We need to get like a frame or something and maybe hang that on the wall.”  He’s never said anything like that about my knitting.  Hmph!
